The Future: MicroLED (Emerging Technology)

Disadvantages: The Road to Mass Production

  • Prohibitive Cost: The manufacturing process, particularly the precise "mass transfer" of millions of microscopic LEDs onto a substrate, is incredibly complex and costly. Currently, large MicroLED panels are prohibitively expensive, often costing six figures or more for a single display.
  • Hard to Manufacture for Consumer Sizes: Achieving the pixel density and yield necessary for smaller consumer-sized TVs (e.g., 65-inch 4K) presents immense manufacturing challenges that have yet to be overcome economically.
  • Limited Availability: Due to cost and manufacturing complexity, MicroLED displays are currently only available to a select few commercial clients or ultra-luxury consumers.
  • Power Consumption Challenges: While individual MicroLEDs are efficient, driving millions of them at high brightness can still lead to significant power consumption for very large displays.
